RANGERS IN THE COMMUNITY
Involvement in the community is seen as being instrumental in the ongoing success of the resort and Kingfisher Bay proudly participates in many community projects. Central to our eco philosophy and operations is the notion of environmental education and ethics and the desire to provide an enjoyable and educational nature-based experience for visitors to Fraser Island.
In 2008 the resort has taken our interpretative program one step further with the introduction of the Rangers In The Community initiative. Over the coming months Kingfisher Bay Resort Rangers will be taking their expertise off Fraser Island and into the local community - visiting schools, social groups and retirement homes - spreading the message about the need to preserve Fraser Island and its special flora and fauna in a fun and educational way.
RANGER BLOG: NOVEMBER 2008
The nocturnal creatures of Fraser Island came out to play with seventy-five enthusiastic students of the Hervey Bay special School on the afternoon of November 20, with howling results. Kids and teachers alike were introduced to the nocturnal wonders of Fraser Island during our informative slide show presentation.
| The squawking of squirrel gliders, frenetic fruit bats and eerie owl sounds filled the screen and as Ranger Gen put it - it was like the night forest had seeped into the school grounds.
The students sat captivated as they learned all about the special senses used by nocturnal creatures to find their food and friends and to avoid predators in the dark. |
| Dingoes, spiders and snakes all made an appearance - but it was the frog chorus that truly caught the kids' imagination and had them all calling from their own lily pads - a very hammpy symphony and a great way to end the school day. A special thank you to Principal Marney Rixon, Paul the Sound Guy and all the kids at HBSS from Ranger Gen and Macy the Christmas Beetle. |
